LATEST ISSUES 12TH December, 2024
I received a letter from the Health and Care Professions Council on Tuesday, 10th December,2024 with an update on my 'fitness to practice' complaint. The letter is marked 'Private and Confidential' so I will not publish it at this moment in time. I have, however, started drafting a response which I freely share below. I intend finishing this lengthy document by Monday next week and will post the remainder on the same day. It is important that the HCPC investigate this complai

FOUR AND TWENTY DEAD CROWS # 13 Crisis peaked
Medical records confirm that safeguarding measures were initiated by Sally Mungall immediately following the ‘review’ meeting on the 13th January, 2022. One referral made its way via the Community Mental Health Team at The Bridge Centre, Basingstoke and straight to the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team ( CRHTT ) at Parklands Hospital in Basingstoke. Another referral made its way to Adult Services Hampshire. Sally also called my GP at Brambly Grange, Basingstoke and spoke

FOUR AND TWENTY DEAD CROWS # 12 Kicked to the curb, almost
13th January 2022. As Meg and I made our way towards CAMHS, Bramblys Drive for her second ‘review’ meeting I was so distraught that I hardly knew how to contain myself. I had forewarned Meg that I might need to be ‘assertive’ in my attempts to advocate on her behalf. I needed to be absolutely sure that provision for Meg’s continued mental healthcare was available beyond CAMHS. My gut feeling told me it wasn’t. We were greeted by Sally and Mark and ushered into a small room.

FOUR AND TWENTY DEAD CROWS # 11 'The thing about Facebook...'
I have often referred to the Christmas holidays of 2021 as being the moment that I experienced my unprecedented mental health breakdown. While it is technically true that a number of extenuating circumstances converged at this very particular point on the calendar, the actual full blown mental breakdown carried over the next four months like a slow motion car crash. The first few days spent with Meg were balanced precariously on an emotional see-saw. Outwardly I presented nor

FOUR AND TWENTY DEAD CROWS # 10 'When Sally met Meg'
23rd December, 2021. So, after around just ten minutes, Mark Birbeck made his excuses and withdrew from the first of the two scheduled ‘review’ meetings leaving Meg and I with Sally Mungall. It was the first time that Meg had actually met Sally and she would meet her just once more on the 13th January, 2022. Looking back it seems remarkable that Sally met with my daughter on just two occasions, both at the dog-end of therapy with Mark Birbeck. Revelations made available thro

LATEST ISSUES 23rd November,2024
I am making a conscious effort to regularly appraise my motives and intentions as I continue to add posts to my blog. Today I thought I would pose a particularly pertinent question to Quora, the question and answer website and online knowledge market. I first started using Quora at the formal ending of my ‘art therapy’ sessions with Sally Mungall, three years prior. I was desperate for insight and quality answers to questions around therapy, transference and counter-transfere

FOUR AND TWENTY DEAD CROWS # 9 'Enmeshment, apparently'
The third and final time that I met with Mark Birbeck alone was on the 5th November 2021. Meg had, yet again and with extreme short notice, decided that she was too unwell to attend her scheduled therapy appointment and I was close to my wits end. There were just four remaining therapy sessions left before she turned 18 and yet still no discernible alleviation in any of her symptoms. Any opportunity to talk about Meg’s progress in therapy was confined to 'Parent Work' with Sa

LATEST ISSUES 12th November, 2024
Note. I have reread the following 'Open Letter' multiple times since posting it yesterday and been so appalled at my writing that I tried editing it several times today. I now realise this to be a mistake. This post needs to be a faithful reproduction of the letter as it was when sent to each of the addressees listed. It is the honest thing to do, in keeping with the ethos that underpins the intention behind this blog, providing an accurate and truthful account of events and

FOUR AND TWENTY DEAD CROWS # 8 'Reviewing Mark Birbeck'
23rd December, 2021 Meg had already celebrated her 18th birthday by the time we made our way to the first of two scheduled ‘review’ meetings with Sally Mungall and Mark Birbeck. Arrangements had already been made for an additional four therapy appointments, postponing Meg’s discharge from CAMHS by a few short weeks. Her final therapy session with Mark was to be held on the 28th January, 2022 but it felt like time had already run out. Meg was hanging on borrowed time and I was

FOUR AND TWENTY DEAD CROWS # 7 'That letter'
So, about ‘that letter’, the 12 page letter that I wrote to Sally Mungall during the week between the 16th and 23rd of December, 2021, the same letter that ignited so much hysteria among so many mental healthcare professionals. Well, here is ‘that letter’, published for the first time for anyone who cares to read it. At first I was only going to publish the second part of the letter. The first part referenced two ‘gifts’ that I had prepared for Sally, the first ‘gift’ being a

LATEST ISSUES 24th October, 2024 'Some Thoughts'
Dear All, I am writing these words as I reflect on the last few days and the very real beginning of this social media campaign. Until last Monday, it was just a select few family and friends who had been invited to read this blog. I have spent the last few months organising this work, learning about social media, understanding things such as 'keywords', 'backlinks','SEO's,'SERP's and a whole plethora of concepts and strategies designed to reach as wide a digital audience as p

FOUR AND TWENTY DEAD CROWS # 6 'False promises'
The final few sessions with Sally Mungall had very little to do with art therapy. I had, by and large, stopped making drawings. The images of monstrous self-disgust, bodily contamination and excretion had gradually been replaced by idealized drawings of Sally herself and then, finally, with one painfully sad picture that seemed to foretell self-enforced boundaries and drowning. And then I drew no more. I simply talked. The pretense at art therapy was over. What emerged was ps

FOUR AND TWENTY DEAD CROWS # 5 'Idealised therapist, less than ideal therapy'
Sally continued taking sessions with me, still wearing her Covid mask, her face still largely unreadable. I relied on her words, her body language and her eyes. ( I have trained myself, since childhood, to read body language. It’s a psychological defense mechanism and a part of my hypervigilance born out a response to early trauma ). To overcome this lack of connection with Sally I had clipped two photos of her found on the internet and stored on my laptop. As previously ment

FOUR AND TWENTY DEAD CROWS #4 'Far beyond the remit of 'ParentWork'.
The sessions became exponentially more harrowing as art therapy proceeded. I believed the purpose of the sessions was to help me understand my relationship with my daughter and to investigate the possibility that intergenerational trauma was being inadvertently passed on to Meg. I felt it was an absolute necessity to face this psychological journey with tenacity and courage. I found myself agreeing with Sally that being open, honest and vulnerable was the best way to serve Me

LATEST ISSUES 3rd October, 2024 'Including updates on the status of my complaint about art therapist, Sally Mungall, currently lodged with the Health and Care Professions Council.'
The following email threads relate to recent communications with the Health and Care Professions Council, the Parliamentary Health Service Ombudsman and the office of my recently elected MP for Basingstoke, Luke Murphy. It should be noted that it has been over TWO YEARS since I first lodged a ‘fitness to practice’ complaint with the Health and Care Professions Council with respect to their registrant, Sally Mungall. I have had NO contact from caseworker, Cleo Fearon, since

FOUR AND TWENTY DEAD CROWS #3 ' Masks and mark-making'.
24th September, 2024 The following is a brief account of the art therapy sessions with Sally Mungall that took place at CAMHS, Bramblys Drive, Basingstoke between the 16th September and 16th of December, 2021, corroborated, in part, by most of Sally Mungall’s own clinical notes recorded at the time. ( It should be noted that I have been denied complete and unredacted access to records by Information Governance at the Sussex Partnership and this includes Sally Mungall’s clin

FOUR AND TWENTY DEAD CROWS 'A bit about informed consent and transference, counter-transference and idealised transference.'
Before I give an account of the sessions with CAMHS art therapist, Sally Mungall, I should take the opportunity to explain two very important concepts. Awareness of these concepts are fundamental to understanding what happened to me during ‘art therapy’ with Sally. I was truly ignorant of both at the time. INFORMED CONSENT Consent is usually defined as the permission given for something to happen or the agreement for something to start. Informed consent is a principle in medi

FOUR AND TWENTY DEAD CROWS #2 'Meeting art therapist, Sally Mungall, for the first time.'
2nd September, 2024, another anniversary. I first met Sally Mungall on the 2nd September, 2021. I had responded to the invitation to attend an art therapy appointment at CAMHS, Bramblys Drive, Basingstoke with a fair amount of scepticism. I didn’t understand why I had been given access to an art therapist when what I really needed was professional insight into Meg’s mental health issues and an objective appraisal of my own parenting approach. I had made a number of informal r
