15TH June 2022. Wanda Reynolds answered my SOS quickly. I arranged to speak to her first thing that afternoon, deciding to take her telephone call well out of earshot of my daughter. Meg had drifted back into her Sirtraline induced hibernation but my emotions were running high and I anticipated a potentially loud and emotionally distressing conversation. Better to take a walk and find a quiet place outdoors.
The afternoon was incongruently bright, blue and sunny, a mismatch to my mood. I headed towards town, crossed Norn Hill after the bridge and made my way along the footpath that headed East parallel to the railway line. It was the closest, quietest place.
Wanda Reynolds called at 2pm. I don’t remember my exact words but I do remember my overwhelming distress and I DO remember Wanda Reynolds response. She was suspiciously quick on the uptake, going straight to ‘You feel like you’ve been misrepresented?’ I had been chewing over the shocking revelations of my disclosed medical records for over three hours but even I hadn’t arrived at that general conclusion, less that specific word, misrepresentation. It was as though Wanda Reynolds was already primed, already had prior knowledge of the contents of my medical records and had been anticipating my reaction. Neither do I think I would have jumped so quickly to the word ‘misrepresentation’. That word is usually used in common law jurisdictions, to describe a false or misleading statement made during negotiations by one party to another. I Googled the following definition
‘To amount to a misrepresentation, the statement must be untrue or seriously misleading. A statement which is "technically true" but which gives a misleading impression is deemed an "untrue statement". If a misstatement is made and later the representor finds that it is false, it becomes fraudulent unless the representer updates the other party. If the statement is true at the time, but becomes untrue due to a change in circumstances, the representor must update the original statement.’
So, in that respect, misrepresentation, or the action or offence of giving a false or misleading account of the nature of something IS perhaps the most appropriate word to use. The complete Googled definition is also pertinent as my rebuttals to the false accusations and statements peppered throughout my medical records have never been acknowledged, addressed or amended.
Wanda Reynolds had arrived at the word ‘misrepresentation’ almost immediately. It was jarring and it stuck in my brain.
I am now certain that Wanda Reynolds had been engaged in reputational management, directing, monitoring and influencing, in order to maintain a positive image of individual clinicians working in CAMHS, Bramblys Drive and the wider Sussex Partnership Trust. It is easy now to see that she had been caught wrong-footed. She probably never imagined that I would ask to access my medical records. When I DID express my intention to access records Wanda Reynolds had anticipated disclosure by Information Governance within the Sussex Partnership. She had no oversight or authority over the medical records disclosed on the 15th June, 2022. These records were held by Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, under a completely separate data protection jurisdiction to the records held by the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
I now believe that Wanda Reynolds was making herself available to me under the guise of a supportive and compassionate manager so as to handle, control and redirect me. I posit that reputational management was Wanda Reynolds true ulterior motive. I was soon to discover that Wanda Reynolds DID already have prior knowledge of the contents of my medical records and HAD been anticipating my reaction. Indeed, Wanda Reynolds would soon to be forced to admit that it was actually her that had been the architect of all the decisions made against me.
Wanda Reynolds had directly intervened in my case on the 22nd March, 2022. She told me that she would carry out an investigation and, incredulously, concluded that investigation within 24 hours by way of the following letter
23.2.22
Dear Mr Stock,
Thank you for your emails and letters, as I mentioned in the email yesterday these have been sent to me as your daughters' case have now been closed to the service.
I can see from your letters and emails that you had an in-depth therapeutic relationship with Sally Mungall - Art Therapist at Basingstoke CAMHS. This was to support you in the parenting of your daughter who was also receiving psychotherapy from Mark Birbeck Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist. My understanding from reading the notes and discussion was that the work ended with yourself in 16.12.21 and there was a final meeting between Mark, Meg, yourself and Sally on 13.1.22. I appreciate that in your final session you discussed the return of your art work and you agreed with Sally that you would make contact when you felt ready. Unfortunately, whilst this was agreed with Sally we are unable to facilitate a further appointment to hand the art work over as Meg is now closed to our service. We know that endings and transitions can be difficult and do recognise the importance of the work that you did with Sally and would be keen for you to have your art back If you wish. We can organise for it to be delivered to your home or you could come into the clinic at a pre-arranged time and the Team Manager would be able to give this to you.
I can see in your letter and emails that you developed a strong level of trust and attachment to Sally and I can read that you are distressed that the promise of a further appointment has not happened. Unfortunately, this should not have been offered and we are unable to facilitate this. I have spoken with Sally and she is now aware that this cannot be facilitated. I would like to recommend some services that can support you at this difficult time.
Your GP will be able to offer you support.
111 offer MH support to both adults and young people and have Mental Health Nurses within the service.
I understand that you have been referred to the Adult Mental Health Team and I understand that you can contact them on ************ should you feel that this would be helpful.
Kind Regards '
Wanda Reynolds
General Manager '
I was later invited to pick up my unprocessed art therapy drawings from a complete stranger at the reception of CAMHS, Bramblys Drive. Wanda Reynolds had, effectively, washed her hands clean with this letter. Or so she had hoped.
The partial disclosure of my medical records by Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust on the 15th June, 2022 marked my change of attitude from one of passive acceptance into assertive repudiation. I had taken a peek behind the curtain and seen evidence of Machiavellian contrivance. Wanda Reynold's letter erroneously dated 23.2.22 had been exposed as a sleight of hand, a tactical distraction from an unpalatable truth.
Hindsight suggests that I should not have reached out to Wanda Reynolds on the 15th of June, 2022. There had been little comfort or consolation in her words and nothing to soothe my raw feeling of betrayal and abandonment. I finished the conversation, my deep distress now piggy-backed by a bloated scepticism.
The deception foisted upon me was about to be dismantled.
